August 9, 2025, local professional association leaders gathered in Flushing, NY to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first version of New York State Acupuncture Practice Act passed which was on 8/9/1975. New York was the first state in the United States which allowed acupuncturists to practice independently.
Dr. David PJ Hung, 94-year-old now, was a key person who initiated and promoted acupuncture legislation in New York State in 1970’s. He was the first Chinese-American who got an acupuncture license in NY. During the ceremony, Dr. Hung gave to NYCTCM a gift which was a high-resolution photocopy of his acupuncture license.
