es a small number of needles and is effective\, but often brings immediate
improvement. Although acupuncture has been practiced in China for thousan
ds of years\, scalp acupuncture as a modern innovation has a history of on
ly 50 years. It is useful in treating stroke\, multiple sclerosis\, paraly
sis after car accidents\, and Parkinson's disease. It also plays an import
ant role in treating pain caused by the central nervous system\, such as p
hantom limb pain\, complex regional pain\, and stump pain. It has been sho
wn to be very effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder\, brain
  injury\, aphasia\, ataxia\, and Ménière's disease.
